"Searching the meaning of spirituality"

Soprano Maira Milolidaki and countertenor Nikos Spanatis perform for two concerts the masterpieces of western religious music of 18th century Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, Stabat Mater by Vivaldi and the mystagogue play by Dimitris Maragkopoulos Nel fiore del mio terzo Aprile in poetry by Dionisios Solomos.

The Islamic identity of the space, the secular poetry of Solomos in Maragkopoulos play and the Christian lamentation of the Virgin in Pergolesi, indicate, in a unique way, the universal dimension of spirituality.

Parnassos Concert Hall
Georg Frederic Händel
"Vespro per la Madonna del Carmelo"

Lito Messini (Soprano) | Evita Chioti (Soprano)
Nikos Spanatis (Countertenor)
Konstantinos Zambounis (Tenor) | Vassilis Assimakopoulos (Bass)

Vocal Ensemble Eklispis and Chamber Orchestra NuovArte under the musical direction of Matthew Legaki.

On Thursday, June 2, at the historic hall Parnassus, three projects will be presented for the first time in Greece (Dixit Dominus, Nisi Dominus & Laudate pueri Dominum) for quintet choir, 2 oboes (only in the 3rd work ) and soloists, that GF Händel composed in Rome in 1707 , just 22 years old , based on the Psalms 109 , 126 & 112  about the battalion of the monastery of Karmelitisson.  Despite his young age, Händel with these projects shows great compositional maturity and complete assimilation of the early Italian Baroque which dominated the musical reality of the 18th century.  These projects remain unknown to this day in the Greek public due to the extremely complex choral writing, which tests the skills of the musicians, but also to the very demanding coordination with orchestra.
