The inspiring odd figure with its head leaned on its head in Dürer’s engraving “Melancholia I” (1514, depicts an internal serenity, calmness, deep reflection, knowledge and redemption, as opposed to the next century where the aforementioned figure is interpreted as sad and macabre, being depicted in excellent songs from Shakespeare’s theatrical plays, melodies of English music tradition composed by the most important composers of Elizabethan era, such as John Dowland, Henry Purcell, Claudio Monteverdi and anonymous as well as in dirges of traditional music of Crete, Epirus and of Greek contemporary composers such as Giorgos Koumentakis and Nikos Kypourgos, creating an atmosphere of unique and rare musical sensation.

 Nikos Spanatis, countertenor

Countertenor Nikos Spanatis has performed in great Concert Halls in Greece, in International Festivals and has appeared in European Countries in Art Projects, in recitals and in Chamber Music Concerts. He collaborates with renowned orchestra Brussels Virtuosi and their creator and famous flautist Marc Grauwels and Estonian Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta and has collaborated with Swedish Chamber Orchestra ‘Musica Vitae’, Estonian Baroque Ensemble ‘Floridante’ and all major Greek orchestras under the baton of Tiberiu Soare, George Petrou, Vassilis Christopoulos, Miltos Logiadis, etc. He was born in Frankfurt. He has studied advanced music theory, trumpet and piano. He has studied singing with Aris Christofelis, Roza Poulimenou in the Department of Music Studies, Ionian University and soprano Mata Katsouli in Philippos Nakas Conservatory where he was awarded with a Diploma in Classical Solo Singing (1st Prize & first class honors). He has performed works of Greek composers such as Dimitris Maragopoulos and Nikos Mamagakis and has done recordings for the Greek Classical Radio - Third Program, for labels MDG and IDAIA, and of Dimitris Papadimitriou’s "Aesop's fables". He has collaborated and been sponsored by TV5MONDE francophone international channel and Tricolore News. Nikos Spanatis has received warm reviews from Greek and international Press, such as, "...his velvet, hedonically dark-colored voice enchantingly conversed with the flute of Marc Grauwels..." (The Journalists' Daily), "...sings with a lovely tone... and brings energy to his recitatives..."(Voix des Arts), among others. He is a PhD Candidate in Ionian University Department of Music Studies and Artistic Director and Singing Teacher at National Conservatory, Ymittos.

Giorgos Goumenakis, mandolinist

Giorgos Goumenakis is a classical mandolinist from Greece. He graduated from ‘‘G. Verdi’’ Conservatory in Milan, Italy, where he studied under the instruction of Professor Ugo Orlandi. He is the founder of the Athens Quintet ‘‘Dimitris Dounis’’ and has reinstituted the Athens Mandolinata ‘‘Nikolaos Lavdas’’, performing with them across Greece and in Italy. He concertizes and records as a soloist & orchestral musician with various orchestras & ensembles such as the Athens State Orchestra, The National Radio Orchestra of Greece, the Orchestra of Colors, the Armonia Atenea, the National Opera Orchestra of Greece, the Athens Youth Sinfonietta, among others and he has appeared in international festivals in Greece, Italy, France, Germany, Turkey, Albania and Croatia. Under the baton of Claudio Scimone, he has performed with the Solisti Veneti in Veneto Festival on the occasion of the World Music Day, as well as at the Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza, recording R. Drigo’s serenade from the ballet “I milioni d’ Arlecchini”. In duo with pianist Stavro Kollia, they perform an original repertory for mandolin and piano. He teaches mandolin at ‘‘Orfeio’’ Athens Conservatory of Music.

After completing a classical guitar course in Chalon-sur-Saone, he won first prize with high honours at the Paris’CNR (conservatoire) in June 2000. He chose to study further under teacher Pablo Marquez at Strasbourg’s conservatory. After an Erasmus year at the ESMUC in Barcelona, taught by the croate soloiste Zoran dukic, he obtained a specialisation diploma. He is also a qualified guitar teacher since 2002. He joined Lyon’s CNSMD in 2005 and in 2011, he obtained a masters with distinction in early music with the theorbo. Etienne’s repertoire includes renaissance, baroque and contemporary music with a variety of stringed instruments : the guitar, the theorbo, the arciliuto and the baroque guitar. He has taken part in many Baroque ensembles including La symphonie du Marais, Les musiciens de Saint Julien, Les Ambassadeurs, Philomèle, Les Ombres, la Chiome d'Oro, l'ensemble Marguerite Louise, Unisoni, and Stravaganza. He plays regularly with the ensemble les Surprises, which allowed him to develop a particularly expressive style of basso continuo. After having taken part in the Ambronay Festival in 2008 he recorded “Belle Virginie” directed by F.E. Comte on the Ambronay label in 2009. He recorded for he same label a disc of Rebel's music with Les Surprises in 2014. In 2011 he played in Julius Caesar by Haendel with the company La Grande Ecurie et le Chambre du Roy directed by J.C. Malgloire, Orpheus by Monteverdi with Les Nouveaux Caractères and recorded The Carnival of Venise by Campra with Le Concert Spirituel under Hervé Niquet for the label “Glossa”. In 2015, He recorded still with the Concert Spirituel the Gloria of Vivaldi and he created with Angélique and Marc Mauillon a french music program.

Robin Pharo, viola da gamba

Robin Pharo started the viola da gamba at 5 and a half with Jean Louis Charbonnier. At 11, he enrolled in the current Regional Conservatory of Paris (C.R.R.) with Caroline Howald and Ariane Maurette. He has also studied at the Early Music Department of Music and Dance’s National Conservatory of Paris, where he worked under the teaching of Christophe Coin and obtained a Master Degree. He is a founder member of the Quartet Nevermind with whom he won the third prize and the special festival prize at the Van Wassenaer competition in Utrecht. In 2015, Nevermind has been invited to play all over Europe, in Iceland and USA and has recorded with Alpha Classic Label. He has already worked with conductors such as Sigiswald Kuijken, Paul Agnew, Olivier Schneebeli, Patrick Cohën-Akenine, and has been engaged by La Grande écurie et La Chambre du Roy where he works under the direction of Jean-Claude Malgoire in great productions such as Didon et Enée, David & Jonathas, and Les Vêpres de la Vierge. He also played on prestigious scenes in Paris : Cité de la musique, théâtre des Champs Elysées, Chapelle Royale du Château de Versailles, église Notre-Dame des Blancs Manteaux, Opéra Bastille, Hôtel de Soubise, and elsewhere  in France : Palais des Papes in Avignon..., or aboard, in Roumania (théâtre Hongrois de Cluj), in USA, in Cuba (La Havane), Iceland (Reikjavik), in Poland, Germany, Italia, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium... Thanks to the band La Réveuse (Florence Bolton and Benjamin Perrot), he performed in several festivals and played with the actor Benjamin Lazar in the show L’autre Monde ou les états et Empires de la lune. He has been engaged in several projects of CNSM (for example La Resurrezione de Haendel where he played the solo part for Viola da Gamba) and Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles and in numerous early music bands such as l’Ensemble Desmarest (Ronan Khalil), L’Ensemble Gilles Binchois (Dominique Vellard), Le Chœur de Chambre de Namur, l’Ensemble Clematis, La Capella Mediterranea (Leonardo Garcia Alarcon ),l’Ensemble La Tempête (Simon-Pierre Bestion de Camboulas), Vox Luminis (Lionel Meunier),La Rêveuse, Le Duo à 7 created by him and Ronald Martin Alonso, around the works of Sainte-Colombe, namely at the Cartoucherie de Vincennes with the program « Paroles de Violes », l'Achéron (François Joubert-Caillet), l'Ensemble Sagittarius (Michel Laplénie), L’Ensemble Stravaganza (Thomas Soltani),L’Ensemble Maja (Bianca Chillemi), l’Ensemble Marguerite-Louise (Gaétan Jarry), Les Musiciens de Mademoiselle de Guise (Laurence Potier) etc… Passionate by the inventive music and the unlimited possibilities of the viola da gamba, Robin Pharo worked with Jazz band such as The Jungles Key and Note Forget the Project. He collaborates with the choregrapher Thierry Thieu Niang and composes the music of the show Au Cœur, programmed at the festival d’Avignon, in 2016. He works presently with contemporary composers such as Philippe Hersant (with whom he creates Hypnos), Rika Suzuki, Yassen Vodenitcharov and Jean-Marc Chouvel (with whom he creates Les Trois ailes du papillon). He also loves improvising in different styles, and in April 2012, he’s invited to accompany Bobby McFerrin,on the stage of Châtelet theater, in Paris.
