Singing master class with countertenor Nikos Spanatis ![]()
Within the framework of the Master Class, countertenor Nikos Spanatis and soprano and artistic director of Female Echoes vocal ensemble Elli Karidi, will join together in a singing recital with well-known songs, popular arias and beloved duets by Stradella, Pergolesi, Scarlatti, Cesti, Gluck, Haendel, Gounod, Mendelssohn, Mozart and Strauss, on Friday 26th May at 21:00 at “Kapodistrias” Philarmonic Orchestra events hall. For active participants, the participation fee is 50€ and for listeners the fee is 15€ (for both days). The number of active participants is limited. The master class will allocate a pianist for active participants. However, participants may have their own accompanying pianist. The concert of active participants will take place on Sunday 28th May at 21:00. Program Soprano Elli Karidi is from Corfu. She began learning music at Corfu Conservatory, where she has obtained degrees of advanced music theory (Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue) with A. Kasianis and a piano degree (with Maria Mazie). She studied at Music Junior High and High School of Corfu. She began singing in 1995 with Varvara Gavakou at Municipal Choir. She studied at Ionian University (Department of Music Studies – Corfu) from which she graduated (2005) with an excellent thesis (opera performance and production) with Rosa Poulimenou. She finished her singing studies with Mata Katsouli, obtaining a singing diploma. She was taught orchestra conducting by Miltos Logiades and piano by Christos Papageorgiou. She is an associate member of National Opera. She has sang at the following operas: Tanhauser by R. Wagner, Cavaleria Rusticana - P. Mascagni, La Traviata - G. Verdi, La serva Padrona - G. B. Pergolesi, Dido & Aeneas - H. Purcell, Despo –P. Karrer, Odysseus’ journey – K. Tsitsas, Christmas Gold - Ch. Hinkins. She has participated as a soloist in numerous concerts and individual recitals in Greece and abroad, mainly with works of Heptanesian school. She has been a member of female octet Voices of Women (Fones Gynekon) (Athens). She has been a member of F. E. Mantzaros orchestra, playing the flute (1993-2001) and has taken part as organist in Church Choir of Saint Eleftherios of Corfu (1995-2005) conducted by her father Ioannis Karidis. She has been a conductor of children choirs since 1999, founding children choirs at Corfu [(Pelekas Children Choir 1999-2005, Children Choir of Corfu Municipality 2004-2005), Athens (children choir of National Conservatory-Department of Paleo Faliron (2006-2009), Amfissa (“Echo” vocal ensemble, 2009-2010)]. She has conducted many children operas with Orchestra accompaniment. Some of the works she has taught and have been performed with stage action are: Cinderella - Davies Peter Maxwell, Brundibar - H. Krasa, Christmas gold - C. Hinkins, Alice- Mark & H. Johnson, Odysseus’ journey – K. Tsitsas, In the enchanted forest & A Day at the Beach – K. Tsitsas, The Resurrection of Christ - Υ. Holdstock, Vikings - Y. Holdstock etc. She has also translated many children musicals in Greek. She teached singing technique in in Music Department of Ionian University. She teaches music within Public Education, monody at Ionian Conservatory of Corfu and and she conducts female vocal ensemble Female Echoes.. |
